Rain
Rain.
Rain is pain falling down and washing over us. Wishing us a comfortable sleep, it wills us to calm and relax upon our restful postures. Still we stand upon hearing the rain, contemplative, peaceful as we let it wash from us the worries and pain that fog our brain, mind and body resting; and knowing that, barring any significant problem, we are free to rest at this moment that we would be at no other. All tasks are done, that need doing right now, as the rain allows no one save the desperate passage into it's cold embrace. Yet still the rain allows us indulgences in warm blankets and cozy fires; the roof may be leaking, but we're certainly not going to fix it now.
Rain and snow share a space in the few things that can fall from the sky that won't cause us much worry beyond what we have to do later, and that can wait because the neither are in any hurry and we shouldn't be either. You might worry the snow or the rain might pile up and cause issues down the line, but you can easily watch it do so and act if necessary. You couldn't do that with fire, or rocks, or bombs. No, certainly not any of those. Most anything, in fact, except rain and snow.
Not everyone appreciates rain. Not everyone appreciates sadness either. But sometimes it's important to sit and stew on things that you can't do anything about. Sometimes you may think about it, and even try to act on it; but few can actually have an effect. You may put up an umbrella, but that only makes it so you only get a little wet, keep it off your head for now, but stay out there long enough and you'll get a face full of it. Maybe put up a good bit of effort and put up a stand. You'll be free from getting wet, but you can still hear it pattering outside your roof. Some may go to extraordinary lengths to sound proof and protect and seal and steal away into a little hole. Some may say "I have won, rain does not exist around me!" but now it's in your head, a constant worry, a different kind of rain; but this is rain all the same. And even then you need to peek out of your hole and see if it is done raining. If you have a device that says "It is okay to come out, it is a bright sunny day" somewhere deep down you will know why it does not say "It is not raining." Some day you will need to face the rain, and some day after that, you will realize that you may in fact enjoy a bit of rain now and then, not more than sunny days but because of them.
