Time

I recently had a thought about work, and time. How often we disregard the importance of time spent and wasted in our lives. Given the nature of my professional work, and given my relatively new presence on the scene, I have to consider that, though I value my time quite highly, I can't assume that others will as well. I may have to sacrifice some personal valuations in order to more closely mesh with how the field values my work, and until I obtain a more diligent following, I may just have to work my way up to charging what I think my time is worth through taking much lower fees for my time. This is the way of things. As it is, I'm taking a massive cut out of my cost for commissions. Instead of doing 10 cents per word, I'm going 1 cent per word, my poor self image T~T.  Anyways, feel free to ask for commissions, I figure most people would charge more for certain kinds of commissions, but honestly, I love writing for people's thoughts so feel free to get in touch with m...

Labels

I'm going to be forthright and say right away that I don't believe in labels. This is not to say that labels are not useful or necessary for many people. What I mean is that I don't believe in using labels in a strict or dogmatic manner. Obviously this isn't a super hot take, but I think it's an important distinction to make for some people who really get caught up in their heads a lot. Remembering to keep yourself open to expressing your feelings freely may not feel as important as keeping track of where you are in a more "universal" sense. For example: You may identify yourself under one label's banner, but in doing so find that you sometimes feel you are only pretending to be like that. Knowing you identify as a certain label allows you to anchor yourself to a point, but prevents you from exploring other parts of yourself that may differ from that banner's identity. It is important to remember that you are not your labels, you are a growing, li...

Alchemy

No. Wrong again. The energies are not focusing right. Experiment after experiment, spell after spell, potion after elixir after solution after poultice after fucking smear. I can't stop, though. Time is of the essence, and the longer I take the less likely the odds of success. Each failure is stacking upon the last further guaranteeing that I... No. No time. I've read books and encyclopedias and journals and tomes and even grimoires. Risking insanity for the cursed knowledge I seek .  Risking life and sound mind is little more than an inconvenience. My resolve is settled, I will persist, I will succeed. I have gathered and scrounged far more than I will need and have prepared more besides to ensure failure is not an option. Before I start, I apply a cooling lotion made from ground crystals. This is an important step, as I won't have time to attend to cooling via the usual methods during the ritual. With this comes the beginning of the casting. First the poultice is applied...

New Poll on my Patreon!

As advertised. I checked my blog settings and they don't let me do polls easily, but Patreon does! So sorry to shunt you off in the direction of my monetization. (Oh no, how horrible...) The poll is up for free, if you can't access it without becoming a member, shoot me an e-mail, something has gone terribly wrong.

Reputation

I recently had a short think about the content of this blog, the headspace I was in not being conducive to particularly social story work. At the same time I needed to contend with some personal and second hand frustrations with appearances. This led me to think about how I present myself in a professional manner, or rather, what kind of content I intend to put out on this blog and in my professional life.  It is ever so important in ones life to separate the church of the mind and the state of professional being. This is not to say to neglect either, or to completely isolate both. Many times I have watched my favorite creators take time for their health and happiness away from projects that they were very passionate about, and with much guilt step away for their own good. In doing so I was very happy to see them do this, because I would much rather put up with a short or moderate hiatus than to lose the opportunity to see their work continue in the long run. Simply because they di...

Plagiarism

Sometimes creative writing is hard. For me, personally, I'm actually very bad at coming up with novel ideas. I suspect most people are, actually, but I can't exactly confirm that easily, so I'll just run with it. What I am good at is taking the ideas that other people have, and coming up with fun riffs off of it, and occasionally putting in effort to be atmospheric in my efforts to chisel the results into this stone you're reading now. A lot of people are afraid of stealing ideas from other people, but really why should you? You'll find most things that are worth thinking of have been thought of long ago by minds that appear much grander then our own. This illusion is not worth stressing over. Barring any tangible benefit you would receive from successful theft, I say you should steal as many ideas as you can in your personal life, and go wild with them. Your flavor on those tired tropes is what makes your creation yours. Does that story you wrote follow that popula...

Sleep

What is sleep even, anyways? Like actually. We lie down, unconscious, vulnerable, and essentially cease to exist in a major, fundamental way. Sometimes we dream, science folk say multiple times a night. Most of these we forget. What are dreams even, anyways? Like really. We hallucinate reality based solely on our subconscious memories and whatever messed up mind-scape we find ourselves possessing. If you think about it dreams are really messed up, and we are just like "yeah, cool story, bro". Lucid dreaming is even wilder. You obtain temporary control over your subconscious mind hallucinations, and if not you wake up immediately. I really should try to remember my dreams more often. I'm not even going to get into Deja-Vu's prescient freakiness. To all you critters out there, enjoy your moss, but lay off the sauce, it's a weird world out there, and bad sleep is bad for you. I should know, I'm terrible at sleep.

Rain

Rain. Rain is pain falling down and washing over us. Wishing us a comfortable sleep, it wills us to calm and relax upon our restful postures. Still we stand upon hearing the rain, contemplative, peaceful as we let it wash from us the worries and pain that fog our brain, mind and body resting; and knowing that, barring any significant problem, we are free to rest at this moment that we would be at no other. All tasks are done, that need doing right now, as the rain allows no one save the desperate passage into it's cold embrace. Yet still the rain allows us indulgences in warm blankets and cozy fires; the roof may be leaking, but we're certainly not going to fix it now.  Rain and snow share a space in the few things that can fall from the sky that won't cause us much worry beyond what we have to do later, and that can wait because the neither are in any hurry and we shouldn't be either. You might worry the snow or the rain might pile up and cause issues down the line, bu...

Warm Forest

Take a breath. Leaves rustle, the wind a warm embrace in the cool shade of the trees. All around you are the greens and browns of a soft mossy landscape welcoming you into it's foliage. Taking a few tentative steps leads you into a bright clearing, spanned by tall grass tickling tantalizingly at your toes. Realize that around you are the places where the wild ones rest and relax, holding silent, sleepy vigil once a day upon the soft grasses thriving vibrantly in the sunshine overhead. Now you can see that, though they may not be here, the warmth of home wafts in waves up to you, the comfort of a peaceful paradise waiting once the forest creatures finish frolicking, falling gently to sleep once more upon brilliant verdant bedding. Further beyond a gentle brook babbling at you from just behind the waves of blades falling gently over a lazy slope. Following this furtive sight set upon the lush stands, up amongst the giants towering in bark, proud as far as the eye can see. Take a brea...
